Google Toolbar PageRank Update – August 2012

Google Toolbar PageRank Update – August 2012

I had just realized a slight change to my Google PageRank of this blog where it was previously PR0 and now PR1. I did a quick search on Google and Search Engine Roundtable reported the same as well.

I haven’t been really building links for this blog where I don’t think this blog really deserve any raise in PR. Probably the Google PR is not all about backlinks and some mechanism as well.

Google PR update – Do I care?

Google PagerankBoth Yes and No.

Why Yes? Because PR0 or other low PR is ugly. It could lead to some visitors will not completely trust what I had wrote on my blog if I were to have low PR. Imagine if some PR8 blog write about something, easily people can trust. So, that is why I still care a little about PR.

Why No? Because there is no real proof that it will affect SEO. Even the SEO expert, Neil Patel don’t think that Google PR matters to him, so why should I?

Since it is a Yes and No think, how should we treat Google PR?

This is how I treat Google PR

First of all, I don’t want to have a low PR. I will stress to build quality links over to my blog to get rid of this ugly ranking thing.

Second, I will not stress myself if my PR is not high enough. There is no point since the strength of SEO does not take the PR into the calculation.

Finally, I will only stress myself until PR3 or PR4 and I think I am done with Google PR.

At the same time, I will take Neil Patel’s advice to focus on other thing such as creating good content, social media traffic, site authority and etc.

I agree with your view that PR0 is “ugly” 🙂 . PR0 is definitely not very appealing to look at, especially if the site has been around for a while. Although many have questioned the realiability of Goolge PageRank, it’s no doubt still a “reference tool” for visitors to judge how good or how important or how trustworthy a site is. We cannot totally ignore improving our site’s PR. We cannot think that it doesn’t matter either. Having said that, I 100% agree that we shouldn’t be too obsessed with PR either. After all, it’s not what blogging is all about anyway. More time should be focused on writing good content instead. Thanks for sharing this article, Alan.

PR is a dicey subject as to the actual implication and why it is even important. I have seen the PR of one of my biggest blog drop from 4 to 3…All the same, as long as the traffic is coming in, I think I won’t bother myself with PR

Hey Alan, Congrats on getting PR1 for your blog. I got inner PR3, but my homepage is also PR1 because I always linked to my blog posts whenever I guest posted or commented somewhere.

      Congrats to you Ehsan.

So far, I commented on other blogs to interact with the writer and reader. I am not too sure whether commentating helps in building quality links or not.

Congrats on the PR increase Alan, For me it was decrease this time, went from PR4 to PR3, but I really do not think PR matters that much. Well ya, like you said having PR0 or PR1 just does not appeal to the eye of the reader, having PR3+ makes the reader feel, eh ok this site has a decent PR so it must be good, besides that there is nothing much I find that PR has in offer.

No worries, Shiva. You have more than 1,000 impressions per day based on your BSA stats.

There are many PR4 sites that don’t have traffic like yours.

High PR doesn’t mean high traffic 🙂

    Hi Alan,
First of all congrats for the increase in your Page rank.
Although everyone want huge traffic on their sites because its the traffic which increases credibility everyone is looking for so if page rank is not good enough there is no matter to be worried about. But yes in some sense PR helps alot,Many bloggers keep searching for high PR sites so that they can build backlinks on them.

Yeps Rajkumar, if there is an increase, we should be happy about it. But if it doesn’t we should not let it drag away our blogging mood.

THanks for your comment Mousumi. At this point, my PR dropped to zero and I still do not know what’s the reason behind. I’m not focusing into PR so much now but rather building relationships with my readers.
