How to submit your blog to web directory after Post-Penguin

How to submit your blog to web directory after Post-Penguin

What is Google Penguin again? To keep things short, it is an algorithm to detect search engine over optimization.

Due to the release of this algorithm, there had been many discussion over whether directory submission will ever work again.

To those who are not sure what is the advantage of submitting your site to web directories, it is a method to build links to your site for SEO purposes and probably increasing your Google PageRank.

As been said, Google Penguin is about over optimization and as long as you are not over optimizing your blog, that should not be a problem.

How to ensure that?

I had taken several facts here to ensure that you are not over optimizing your blog by submitting to web directories. In order to ensure that, I will measure the directories whether they are a quality directories or not.

Things that I will consider here includes:

  • Index status. To check whether Google index a site, just head over to Google main page and type ‘site:your-url-here‘. If there is no result shown, this means that Google somehow de-indexed the site and it could be Google Panda or violating the terms and conditions of Google. If the web directories is not indexed by Google, don’t submit your blog there. Something is wrong there and you should avoid.
  • Google PageRank. If the Google PR of the web directory is too low, avoid it. It could lead to low quality links to your site and might signal the Google Penguin. Although PR doesn’t matter much here, but it is also good that you put some attention to it.
  • Domain Authority. Just like the Google PR concept, the higher the Domain Authority, the better the site is. If you already have a list of High PR directories to submit, cross check them with the Domain Authority. Avoid them as well if the Domain Authority is too low. You can always use this tool to check the Domain Authority quickly.

At the end of your filtering, you might just end up with 40% of your actual list to submit but don’t let that demoralize you. On the bright side, you are now submitting to quality sites only and quality links is what SEO is all about.

Quick tips to a Web Directory submissions

Web Directory Submission

Every blog directory submission has quite a similar form although they come from different sites. To speed up your directory submission, I would advice you to get your notepad up with the details below. I had been submitting to many directories and based on my experience, these are the mandatory information.

  • Name of your site/blog. Note: Don’t use keyword here.
  • URL of your site/blog
  • Description. Keep it less than 150 words.
  • Keywords/Tags.
  • Your email address. Some directory needs email confirmation.
  • Category. Prepare at least 2-3 deep category that your site/blog fall into.

My list of web directories

I have my own list of Free Web Directories to submit whenever I start a new blog where I only give it over to my newsletter subscribers.

It is not a huge list (about 30 over directories) but all are PR3 and above with Domain Authority 45 and above to ensure that the links that you got from them are quality links.

If you are interested, just subscribe to my newsletter and I will send the download link to you.
