How advertising affects your Google PageRank

How advertising affects your Google PageRank

As I mentioned before, I don’t quite care about Google PageRank but I still follow a proper guideline by Google to build my blog.

Before I go into the point on how advertising affects your Google PageRank, you might first want to hear a story from one of the post I read in Search Engine Roundtable.

The Search Engine Roundtable is a site with PR7 previously before being penalized to PR3. They don’t do the fix simply because they don’t think that Google should tell them how they build their site and some personal reasons.

As a result, this guy, Barry Schwartz wrote a blog post about this and until today, they are still selling text links without following the Google Guideline.

So back to our topic here…

Google PagerankIf you own a decent Google PageRank site, just like one of my security site, you will often receive offer from advertiser about purchasing text link advertisement on your site. I’m not talking about those that spam your site and ask for link exchange. That we can totally ignore.

When I replied those potential advertiser on my site with my price without my terms, they seems okay with it and usually will ask me how they can transfer their advertisement fee to me.

I then only reply them and tell them about my terms that if they want to advertise text link on my site, I will make them to rel=nofollow, just like what Google defined for me in selling links.

From my record, 100% of those potential advertisers do not want to advertise a rel=nofollow link. They contacted me is simply because they want to buy a link on my site to gain SEO advantage.

So usually, I will handle this request by referring them to my guest post guideline and ask them to contribute an article to my site. It works to most of the advertisers because guest posting on my site is always free.

My point here is, if you realize that you have a drop of PageRank about 30%-50%, like PR7 down to PR3, something is really wrong there and you need to start looking whether do you pass any PageRank juice accidentally that Google sees it as paid links.

If you have only one PR dropped, don’t blame Google because you might just lost some quality links to your site. Keep building quality and relevant links to regain back your PR.

If you have any curiosity, feel free to visit Matt Cutts recent blog post on his reply to the drop of Google PageRank.

Yeps. To certain people, I don’t think they want Google to teach them how to build their site. So that is why Barry still have those sponsored links up.

Having Advertising can only make difference when ones site has worth and following the guidelines of Google.IT can affect the site’s ranking in both increasing and decreasing ways.

        Yes Alan for sure.
What i mean here is a site can get affected in increasing way when it has worth it and getting lots of CPC by Google which results in increase in traffic on the site. And it affects in a decreasing way when Google Adsense ban that site forever when it comes to posting ads.

I mean the Google PageRank (PR) – The toolbar which measures from 0 – 10.

            Not the search engine ranking.

Somehow, Google PR does not directly affect the search engine ranking if you read one of my previous post:
